These crunchy za'atar pita chips are quick, easy, and delicious. Za'atar is a mix of sumac, dried thyme, and sesame seeds. It's commonly used in Middle Eastern cuisine.
Za'atar pita chips take only 10 minutes and need just four ingredients: za'atar spice, pita bread, frying oil, and salt.
You can use any type of pita bread, however, thin pita bread works the best (like Lebanese pita). Split the pita bread, separating the top and bottom halves.
Stack the pita bread halves on top of one another. Cut the pita bread into 2" squares using kitchen scissors.
Once all of the pita bread is cut, heat up the frying oil on medium heat.
Don't overheat the oil because the pita bread fries relatively quickly. Add the pita bread squares to the oil once the oil is hot.
Remove the pita chips using a slotted spoon once they turn golden.
Place the pita chip on a paper towel lined plate to drain the excess oil. Sprinkle some za'atar spice and salt on the pita chips.
