Spanakopita pie is a popular Greek recipe made with creamy spinach and feta stuffing nestled in between filo layers.
This spanakopita recipe uses fresh spinach.
Other ingredients for this recipe are butter, nutmeg, salt, pepper, fresh dill, green onion, garlic, egg, feta cheese, Greek yogurt, fil dough, and parmesan cheese.
Start by preparing the filling. Wash and chop the spinach. On medium heat in a nonstick pan with a cover, cook the spinach until it wilts (about 4 to 5 minutes).
Drain the spinach from the excess liquid. Add the spinach to a bowl.
Allow the wilted spinach to cool for a few minutes. Then add the minced garlic, chopped green onion, Greek yogurt, feta cheese, salt, pepper, ground nutmeg, chopped fresh dill, and egg.
Mix the spinach and feta stuffing until combined. Set aside.
In a round pie dish, lay a filo sheet. Spread some melted butter. Lay a second fil sheet rotating it slightly. Spread more butter. Continue to alternate filo sheet and butter for 8 to 10 sheets.
Add the spinach and feta stuffing on top of the filo layers.
Delicately fold the filo layers over the spinach and feta filling.
Once all of the filo layers are folded over, sprinkle some shredded parmesan cheese on top.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the middle of the oven at 400 ℉(205 ℃) until golden brown.
