Authentic Italian Spaghetti and Meatballs

This is the best Italian spaghetti and meatballs recipe made with homemade tender meatballs simmered in an onion herb tomato sauce. It takes just 45 minutes.

The secret is in the moist meatballs made of ground beef, milk soaked bread, grated parmesan, an egg, garlic paste, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper.

Remove the crust off of some sliced bread.

Add the torn pieces of bread to a bowl and pour in the milk. Let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes.

Squeeze the excess milk from the bread and place the soaked bread in a bowl.

Add the ground beef, egg, parmesan, garlic paste, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the milk soaked bread.

Mix the meatball mixture with your hands.

Make 1.5" size meatballs and fry in hot oil for about 5 minutes total. Caramelize all sides.

Place meatballs on a paper towel lined plate.

In a second pot, fry the chopped onions and minced garlic.

Add the strained tomatoes, water, dried Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer for 5 minutes covered.

Add the meatballs and simmer covered for 15 to 20 minutes. While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti noodles in a pot of boiling water.

The sauce will thicken up. Serve over spaghetti with some fresh parmesan.
