Bazella  Pea Stew with Meat

Bazella is a hearty stew made with green peas, carrots, onion, potatoes, spices, salt, and meat chunks simmered in a rich tomato sauce.

You can use canned crushed tomatoes, passata, or fresh Roma tomatoes for the tomato sauce.

If making the tomato sauce fresh, cut the tomatoes in half and remove the seeds with a spoon. Add to a blender.

Blend the tomatoes. The consistency will be like tomato juice.

Strain the tomato sauce into a bowl. Set aside.

Brown the meat chunks in olive oil. Set aside.

Sauté the onions and carrots. Add the spices and tomato paste.

Add the tomato sauce, water, and meat chunks.

Bring to a simmer on medium-high heat. Cover and cook for 30 minutes.

Add the green peas and potato chunks.

Check the liquid level and add more water (or stock) if needed. Cover and cook on low temperature for about an hour.

The stew is finished when the meat and vegetables are tender. Serve with a bed of rice.
