Italian Fried Calamari (Calamari Fritti)

This 15-minute Italian fried calamari is the best fried calamari recipe ever.

This simple appetizer uses only a few ingredients: fresh squid, flour, olive oil, and crushed garlic.

Clean and cut the fresh whole squid. Mash the garlic into a paste using a mortar and pestle. Mix the garlic into the squid.

Dredge the squid rings in plain flour, shaking off the excess.

Once all of the calamri is coated in flour, heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Add enough to create a thin layer of oil.

Test the oil using a piece of bread to make sure it's hot. Add the calamari and fry on each side until golden brown (about 2 to 3 minutes per side).

Salt and squeeze lemon right before serving.
